Company health and wellness programs are trying to catch up to scientific discoveries about health and wellness, but have been slow to do so.

While a corporate wellness program can be composed of many different elements – from cafeteria subsidizing and biometric screenings, to gym reimbursement and activity trackers  – everyone from HR to CFO’s to the employees themselves are still asking “Are they actually creating healthier people?”

By now, we’re well-versed in data and what it can do for you. It’s the Guinea pig era, after all. Consider this common wellness program agenda: Continue reading

Fighting Diabetes, PCOS, & Metabolic Syndrome: One User’s Experience With WellnessFX

Of the many Dos (and one Don’t) of dealing with your blood test results, one thing we stress is analyzing your lab results with one of our practitioners. Two reasons why:

  1. Because we know that navigating your lab results can be confusing.
  2. Because you, your lab values, and WebMD are no substitute for a medical professionalimage (1)

This week, we had the joy of stumbling upon this blog post of a WellnessFX user’s experience with one of our practitioners, Jennifer Phelps, MS, MD. Elaine Barlow posted a Continue reading

The Dos (and One Don’t) of Dealing with Blood Test Results

When you get your blood tested with WellnessFX, it’s like getting your doctor to turn their clipboard around to face you so you can take a good look at your stats. For some people, this idea is intimidating. Some fear that when a person learns about their biomarkers, it only leads to fear and poor decision-making. But understanding comes from data and the tools we provide to interpret it. And that provides the confidence that people need to take control of their health and take effective action. The Benefits of a WellnessFX Consultation Verses Your PCP

Doctors’ appointments conjure different feelings and reactions from different people. But regardless of your state of health or what the appointment is for, no one likes fighting traffic and suffering long waits at the doctor’s office. Luckily, technology has made getting quality medical advice easy, convenient – even fun. With companies like WellnessFX, you can get blood tests done on your own time, without a doctor’s referral. You can also speak to a physician, nutritionist, or registered dietitian whenever you want, from the comfort of your home.

If you’re not sure what one of our telehealth consultations looks like, check out this video with WFX member Ping Yeh.

Ping was diagnosed with stage Hodgkin’s lymphoma earlier this year after months of suffering from undiagnosed ailments. Rather than looking at the whole patient, Ping’s specialists treated each symptom separately, from fatigue to digestive problems to a persistent cough. He saw six of these specialists before one of his lungs finally collapsed and they were able to find a tumor that had grown to the size of a grapefruit.

Most conditions require that a physician look at the issues holistically and make diagnoses and treatment decisions based on full blood diagnostics and the patient’s medical history. When dealing with physicians through health insurance, face time can be at a premium. Doctors may dimiss something “minor” because they are trained to treat very sick looking people. “It was months before they could find the cancer,” Ping said. “I was otherwise a really healthy, active person. That actually made it harder for the doctors to figure out what was wrong.”

Ping has since undergone chemotherapy and radiation to eradicate his tumor. Although his cancer is in remission, he’s still looking for ways to track and optimize his biological health after such harsh treatments. WellnessFX allows him to monitor his thyroid, inflammation, vitamin and mineral levels to make sure he’s getting everything he needs to fully recover and feel his best.

In this video, Ping is joined by two of WellnessFX’s finest practitioners, Yasmin Nibbe, MD and Alisha Gillespie, MS, RD. Together, they walk Ping through his blood tests and recommend ways for him to optimize his health through small dietary changes and natural supplements.

WellnessFX offers several practitioner consultations, ranging from 20 to 50 minutes with licensed, expert nutritionists, RDs, and physicians. Every consultation is tailored to your specific needs, lifestyle, and approach to medicine. You choose the consultation time and the practitioner right for you. You’ll never get caught in traffic or spend time in a waiting room with a WellnessFX practitioner – consultations are conducted on your time, from wherever you have a phone and Internet connection.

Getting regular advanced blood tests can even prevent conditions like cancer. Some practitioners suggested that if Ping would have known his inflammation levels and other high markers associated with stress, he could have stopped his cancer before it started.

WellnessFX offers a wide range of practitioners to meet all different types of lifestyles, from Paleo to Vegan, athletes to pregnant moms. Meet our practitioners to learn more.
